Charles Krauthammer tells Fox News that Mitt Romney made a series of tactical errors, and that the inevitable barrage of party soul-searching stories are misguided.
"All this cosmic stuff about how we have to reinvent the party, I think that is a huge mistake."
Interestingly, though, he does agree with Brit Hume that Romney went too far to the right on immigration in the primary -- or as he calls it, a "fairly extreme position on immigration that he could not retreat from."
"Romney made a huge tactical error when he went to the right of Rick Perry during the primaries and took a fairly extreme position on immigration that he could not retreat from, but again, this is not structural."
I get what Krauthammer is saying, but shifting on immigration is a reinvention of sorts. Not a cosmic one. But definitely one.
