Martin O'Malley hosts celebration for same-sex marriage law

Yesterday, he sent supporters a picture of himself signing Maryland's same-sex marriage measure (along with a "contribute" button for his PAC), and tonight his political victory lap extends.

Maryland Gov. Martin O’Malley (D) and his wife are planning to welcome close to 200 supporters of same-sex marriage to the governor’s mansion Friday night to celebrate the arrival of gay nuptials in the Free State.

Invitations to the event bill it as a “holiday celebration.” But the cover features a photo of the black-and-white “Dignity” button that O’Malley wore as he championed the legislation this year, and aides confirmed the purpose is to thank supporters.

Three things:

1. He's probably going to leverage his same-sex marriage battles and victories pretty heavily in a 2016 presidential primary.

2. That's pretty much the most awesome pic up there of O'Malley that you can find on the governor's page.

3. I've stood about ten feet away from the guy on the left at a Fort McHenry, Baltimore 1812 reenactment event two years ago. He was reading the Constitution or the Declaration of Independence or one of those things VERY loudly as cannonball was going off every thirty seconds.
